Interview: Grau -光とアートのエクスペディション-

Interview: Grau -Expedition of Light and Art-

Grau is a design studio founded by brothers Christian and Konstantin Grau. Grau's work is known for its unique approach to combining light, design and art, and its aesthetic is based on minimalism and sensibility. Their designs are simple yet thoughtful, providing users with an emotional and dynamic light experience.

Please tell us about your recent endeavors.

Today we are incredibly excited to launch our first light player called "Fire" - the culmination of years of vision, a moving light that delivers an emotional and immersive lighting experience. "Fire" brings a poetic atmosphere to a room, just like a candle or a fireplace, while providing blue-free light that promotes healthy melatonin release.

Does Japanese culture and traditions influence your work?

We have great respect for the minimalism and strong sensibility of Japanese culture. The dynamic coexistence of tradition and modernity, innovation and tradition, embodies the deep beauty and sensibility of Japanese culture. We have visited Japan several times, and each time we reaffirm the influence of Japanese culture on our designs.

What is your process for combining artistry and technique in your Grau work?

At Grau, we design with light like music and believe that subtle light qualities can completely change the atmosphere of a space. Seamless integration of technology is a key part of our product design and user experience. We aim to design for simplicity, intuitiveness and delight.

What kind of experience do you want to provide with your interactive installation?

Light is a medium of hope and has the power to draw people together. Our artworks aim to activate people's senses and deepen their awareness of their surroundings. Through light, we hope to bring people together and help them find their inner light.

How does this reflect your commitment to sustainable design?

At Grau, we value long-lasting quality and repair services, and we strive for eco-friendly design. The most environmentally friendly designs are those that last for many years, and that's why we continue to innovate.

What is the most important element in your creative process?

Collaboration is the most important part of our creative process. By working with many talents, Grau offers a constantly stimulating environment. We believe that collaboration enhances creativity and inspires.
